Avenged Sevenfold is a hard rock band formed in 1999 from Huntington Beach, California. The band consists of vocalist Matt Shadows, lead guitarist Synyster Gates, rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance, and bassist Johnny Christ. The band started off with more metalcore screaming, but later changed to more hard rock music. Nightmare, their newest album, just got released.

Nightmare was released July 19. During the first week of sales, it topped Eminem’s reign for the number one most selling CD with 162,500. Bassist Johnny Christ said that they were, “elated to hear the news of their accomplishment.”

Aaron Titan, a writer, rated it as one of the best albums of all time, saying, “If you’re a fan of Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare is a must-have for you, and immediately! If you didn’t like this band before, this one MAY change your mind, but you’ve gotta’ come into the listening experience with an open opinion about A7X.”

Nightmare originated after the drummer for Avenged Sevenfold, The Rev, died of a drug overdose in December 2009. After the mourning of their drummer, they set out to finish the album that was just started. They picked up Mike Portnoy, drummer for Dream Theatre and The Rev’s favorite drummer, and finished Nightmare.
